ILVA POLIMERI OBTAINS ISO 14001 CERTIFICATION FOR RESPONSIBLE TECHNOLOGIES FOR WOOD VARNISH, THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE COUNTRY

March 2005 - A company with a long tradition of respect for the environment, ILVA Polimeri has been a member of the Responsible Care programme since 1992 and implements several initiatives designed to promote harmony between its line of industry and the human and natural environments.

As further testimony to its long-standing commitment to improving safety, protection, health and the environment, and reducing the environmental impact of its own manufacturing processes, products and services, in January 2005 ILVA Polimeri obtained ISO 14001 certification, the internationally-recognized environmental management standard.

ISO 14001 certification requires candidate companies to meet conditions far more stringent than those required by law, and is recognition of ILVA Polimeri's constant efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its products. To do this ILVA Polimeri closely monitors every factor - manufacturing and other - which can or potentially could have an impact on the natural and human environment, such as energy and water consumption, waste management, and atmospheric emissions.

ISO 14001 certification is one more step towards ILVA Polimeri's ultimate goal of total environmental compatibility - an objective which ILVA Polimeri will continue to pursue in its respect for the people it works with and the environment it works in.
