What is varnish?
Varnish is the process that allows a support to be coated for both
protective and decorative purposes.
What is a varnish system?
The term "varnish
system" indicates the process of applying several varnish products,
chosen in order to give the support the desired aesthetic effect and
chemical-physical characteristics.
The varnish system is constituted of a series of operations:
- Sanding the support:
This operation renders the surface to be varnished smooth and porous,
thanks to the elimination of all unevenness, to facilitate physical
adherence of the layer of the varnish product to the surface.
- Varnish and enhancement (if necessary):
This operation is useful for modifying, enhancing or making uniform the
colour of the support.
- Insulation (if necessary:
The application of insulation is useful in order to favour improved
adherence of the varnish products on particular supports, normally those
of an exotic nature.
- Filling:
The application of one or more undercoats to fill in the pores of the
support to the desired extent.
- Sanding the base:
This operation is necessary to prepare the surface, to which we have
already applied one or more undercoats, for the application of a
finishing product.
- Finish
The application process of the topcoat of varnish product, to give the
support the desired aesthetic effect and chemical-physical
characteristics.
Special needs may require the operations of a varnish system to be
carried out in a sequence other than that indicated above.
